A unique chance to experience Southern Hemisphere Jazz!
A South American “Quota” of creative musicians joining North America (Calif) and landing in Boston, for an Hispanic Improv-Free-Jazz journey.
Lead by Tatiana Castro Mejia, pianist, and poet who recently moved here, brings her personal and cultural improv and free Jazz to Boston with a group of young South American & A Calif musicians to also express their unique “hemispheric” language of improvisation through Free-Jazz!

She’s Interested in field of sound and process of improvisation, caring out a constant search to expand her listening in order to dive into this territory. The word begins to be part of this game, it’s meaning, but also its value as sound. Her professional artistic life started in Bogota, but she developed it intensively in Buenos Aires where she lived for 16 years, until 2021. ROSINA SCAMPINO:
Drummer Rosina Scampino attended Berklee College of Music where she completed a bachelor’s degree in 2019, and a master’s degree through the Berklee Global Jazz Institute in 2020. A long-time student of the late great Bob Gullotti, Rosina’s musicality and highly sensitive touch on the drums are what characterize her playing. A native of Rosario, Argentina, she aims to create a sound that represents her South American musical roots in the context of contemporary jazz. To listen some of her music:

ANNA ABONDOLO
Anna Abondolo is a bassist and composer from Los Angeles, California. She is currently based in Brooklyn developing an interdisciplinary collective entitled, “Rainbow Princess”. At New England Conservatory, Anna has studied under the instruction of Donald Palma, Frank Carlberg, and John Clayton. Also Anthony Coleman, Jason Moran, and John Mallia.

ALEJANDRA GĂ“MEZ
Alejandra GĂłmez is a trumpet player from Uruguay, South America. She has been playing trumpet since her early 20s and also plays guitar and percussion. She has been immersed in Uruguayan traditional music called Candombe, first as a dancer and then as a drummer. As a musician, Alejandra is looking to be able to transmit a message configured within each listener, and to make it happen, improvisation has been her main engine. Alejandra is interested in exploring the connection between different languages, rhythms, and traditions, searching for her voice. She constantly seeks to produce sound images that generate questing effects in the one listening.

Tatiana Castro MejĂa
From a very young age she always had an interest, a curiosity for the creative, to assemble and disassemble, mostly from the sound, but at times touching other languages: dance, writing, dramaturgy. Today, more than 20 years after having decided to dedicate her life to music, she walks a path where improvisation plays a leading role and she seeks to cross lines with dance and theater, with writing and poetry. She studied at the Pontificia Universidad Javeriana (Bogotá, Colombia) where she graduated obtaining the title of "Master of Music with Emphasis in Jazz". Between 2005 and 2006 she studied with the Argentine pianist Ernesto Jodos in Buenos Aires, thanks to a scholarship granted by the Fernando Sor School of Music in Bogotá and the Buenos Aires School of Contemporary Music where she was a teacher (www.escuelademusica. org). Her professional artistic life began in Bogotá, but she has had a strong development in Buenos Aires, where she has lived for 15 years.
Tatiana Castro MejĂa was born in Colombia. In 2004, she earned a scholarship to study with Ernesto Jodos and Rodrigo DomĂnguez. She played in Mair, Tekeye, Bogotaires and Proyecto de MĂşsica Contemporánea. She released Ciclos, her first album. She co-directs a music and dance collective improvisation project with dancer Aleema Curri. She leads a quintet that plays the music of Eric Dolphy.
