Billy Novick has had a whirlwind career in music for over 40 years as a performing artist, studio musician, arranger, and composer. As a performer, he has impressed audiences throughout North America, Europe, and Asia with his soulful, lyrical jazz clarinet and sax. His musical collaboration with guitar wizard Guy Van Duser has resulted in frequent appearances on the Prairie Home Companion radio show and a feature-length interview on NPRs All Things Considered.. In 1986, Mr. Novick joined the internationally-acclaimed New Black Eagle Jazz Band and continues to perform with them.
He has recorded seventeen albums under his own name, and, as a studio musician, has been featured as a sideman on more than 250 recordings and over 100 film and television soundtracks. His many film credits as arranger or composer include Eight Men Out, Music of the Heart, and The Opposite of Sex. Novicks jug band adaptation of Peter and the Wolf, with Dave Van Ronk narrating, premiered in New Yorks Lincoln Center. He has composed extensively for modern dance, and his two full-length ballet scores, The Great Gatsby and The Sun Also Rises, debuted at the Kennedy Center to sold-out houses and rave reviews.
Gabriela Martina is a singer, composer, arranger, and bandleader. This dynamic Swiss-born artist has been called the real thing, the body, and soul of jazz. (Entertainment Radio, UK) In addition to leading her own groups, her musical versatility has allowed her to perform and collaborate with a wide range of musicians, including Meshell Ndegeocello, Jack DeJohnette, and Angelique Kidjo. Her newest album, No White Shoes, represents a major step in the singers sojourn as a 21st-century musician and it received a four-star review in DownBeat magazine.
David Clark was the resident jazz instructor at the International School for the Double Bass in Cincinnati, Ohio, during which time he was twice recipient of the National Endowment for the Arts jazz study grant. He is currently a professor at Berklee College of Music where he teaches bass and jazz. As a performing bassist, Clark has appeared with a host of renowned musicians including Mose Allison, Lois Bellson, Terri Lyne Carrington, Peter Frampton, and John Medeski, to name just a few.
