Racha Fora is a Brazilian infused jazz group led by flutist Hiroaki Honshuku who hails from Kamakura, Japan. Playing with Honshuku is an eclectic cast of incredible musicians. Guitarist Mauricio Andrade from Northeastern Brazil is a Berklee College of Music graduate who has studied with Hal Crook, Joe Lovano and Dave Samuels. The other key part of Racha Fora is bassist Rafael Russi, also from Brazil and a Berklee College of Music graduate who has played with many Brazilian luminaries such as Lupa Santiago and Daniel Alcantra. Joining Racha Fora is special guest Norkio Terada. Born in Japan, Terada is an accomplished percussionist who has performed on some of music’s premier venues such as The Blue Note in NYC, Carnegie Hall in NYC, Symphony Hall in Boston, and The Montreal Jazz Festival.
A-NO-NE Christmas is an annual celebration led by Hiro Honshuku. He has released numerous albums and has performed in many prominent venues throughout New England over the past several decades. Described as a “delightful improvisational take on traditional holiday favorites”, A-NO-NE Christmas takes classic Christmas hymnals and reharmonizes and recomposes them with hot Brazilian grooves to create an evening of music like no other. Honshuku sows his experience living in Japan with his education in European music and jazz to bring a night of pan-cultural and compelling music to Ryles Jazz Club.
