Jason has performed throughout the Northeast, in jazz clubs, concert halls and other venues in Boston and New York City. Outside the United States, Jason has performed in South Africa and Argentina. While at the New England Conservatory (NEC) in Boston, Jason studied with some of the world’s most dynamic and creative jazz musicians and improvisers, including Danilo Pérez, Fred Hersch, Jerry Bergonzi, Frank Carlberg, John McNeil, and Ran Blake. Jason’s formative training in both classical music and jazz included private and class study with many other wonderful teachers, including Dan Loschen, Kyle Aho, and Milton Academy’s jazz director Bob Sinicrope.Jason’s interests are diverse, and extend beyond music. An international relations major at Tufts University, Jason graduated from the 5-year Tufts/NEC Double Degree Program with a B.A. (summa cum laude, Phi Beta Kappa) from Tufts and a B.M. (with honors) from NEC. Like his mentor and teacher, the renowned JY_playingpianist Danilo Pérez, Jason believes that music can be a force for good, with the healing capacity to bring people together and contribute positively to our world. Jason hopes to do his part by someday fusing his
interests in music and international conflict/social change.Jason is also an active educator, serving on the piano faculties of the Berklee College of Music in Boston and the Varta Academy of Musical Arts in New York. He stresses fundamentals (technique, reading, ear-training, etc.) while also opening up students’ minds and ears to creative pursuits through improvisation, composition, and studying music that is fun and meaningful for them. Having taught students ranging in age from 4 to 84, Jason is both a patient and demanding teacher, and is currently accepting students into his private studio in NYC.
