Featured during the second week of Jazz Camp will be the four-time Grammy-winning vocalist, Dianne
Reeves, who has been selected as the MJFâs Artist-In-Residence for 2010. As MJFâs Artist-In-Residence,
Reeves will work year-round with young student musicians in performances, clinics and one-on-one
sessions at the Next Generation Festival and the MJF Summer Jazz Camp, in addition to performing at the
Monterey Jazz Festival and at other MJF concerts and events throughout the year. Started in 2004, the MJF
Artist-In-Residence program has brought Regina Carter, Branford Marsalis, Kurt Elling, Terence
Blanchard, Christian McBride; and Vincent Gardner and Ali Jackson of the Jazz at Lincoln Center Jazz
Orchestra to the Monterey Bay; their involvement and interaction with students provides a unique
educational opportunity through mentorship that will last a lifetime.
In addition to Ms. Reeves, the camp's roster of instructors continues to feature many of the finest jazz
educators in the country. 2010 faculty include saxophonists Paul Contos and Virginia Mayhew, trumpeters
Peck Allmond and Michael Galisatus, trombonist Robynn Amy, drummer Vince Lateano, bassist Scott
Steed, guitarist Bruce Forman, pianist and Monterey Peninsula College instructor Eddie Mendenhall, and
renowned vocalists Julia Dollison and Kerry Marsh. Committed to training young instructors in the art of
teaching, the camp also invites talented alumni of the Monterey County High School All-Star Band and
Jazz Camp to mentor younger students. In recent years, the MJF Summer Jazz Camp has welcomed back
trombonist Mark Stotzer, drummer Jesus Vega, guitarist Alex Govan, saxophonist Taylor Herhusky, and
pianist Milton Fletcher to its faculty.
