Democratic Vistas? a concert celebration of Duke Ellington’s birthday, honoring his tradition of “socially significant” compositions. The program features original works by Mark Harvey including Boston Boy, for the late Nat Hentoff, and premieres of contemporary tone-parallels such as Fake News Blews, Swamp-a-rama, and Waltz of the Oligarchs. Also on the program is a reading from Walt Whitman’s prophetic essay Democratic Vistas, and a performance of Harvey’s anthem of hope and inclusivity No Walls.
