Nando Michelin and Sissy Castrogiovanni Double Album Release Celebration Wednesday, April 17, 8:30 pm The Regattabar, Cambridge
Cambridge, MA- Nando Michelin and Sissy Castrogiovanni present a double release celebration on Wednesday, April 17 at 8:30 PM at The Regattabar, 1 Bennett Street, Cambridge. Tickets are $16 and can be reserved online by visiting www.regattabarjazz.com or by calling 617 661 5000.
Pianist and composer Nando Michelin and vocalist Sissy Castrogiovanni are joining forces to celebrate the release of both Nando Michelin’s new special edition album in Japan, “Reencontro” and Sissy Castrogiovanni’s new “Intra Lu Munnu”.
Nando Michelin, born in Montevideo, Uruguay, is a professor at Berklee College of Music. He has played and recorded alongside John Patitucci, Randy Brecker, George Garzone, Felipe Salles, Anat Cohen and Jerry Bergonzi, among several others. Discography includes “Facing South”, “Common Grounds”, “Live at the AJC”, “Art”, “Chants”, “When Einstein Dreams” and “Duende” with Esperanza Spalding. Most recently, his last album “Como Arboles” features original songs written to the poems by the great Uruguayan poet Mario Benedetti. As a part of the Ragazzi-Michelin duo, he has performed at The Wang Center in Boston and The Kimmel
Center in Philadelphia, among others. Michelin is also an active educator as an Assistant Professor for the Piano Department at Berklee College of Music, Tufts University, and Longy School of Music.
“Reecontro”, which was independently released in America in 2009, is the 8th release for Michelin and features Grammy Award winning bassist and vocalist Esperanza Spalding, vocalist Leala Vogt, and drummers Richie Barshay and Tiago Michelin, Nando’s son. The Japanese Edition was officially released on January 17, 2013.
Joining Michelin is Sicilian-born vocalist Sissy Castrogiovanni. A Berklee graduate as well, Castrogiovanni has shared the stage with jazz greats such as Jack DeJohnette, Bobby McFerin, and Javier Limon, among others. She has performed in Italy, Spain, Belgium, France, and the United States as part of varying jazz festivals such as Umbria Jazz in 2008, Jazz Marathon in 2008, Piazza Jazz in 2010 and MIDEM Cannes Music Festival in 2012. She has been heard at Jordan Hall and the Italian Embassy in Boston as well at the European Parliament in Brussels.
“Intra Lu Munnu” is Castrogiovanni’s first work as a solo artist, entirely signed under her name as singer and composer. The album offers a fresh take on jazz with notes of traditional Sicilian folk music and other Mediterranean influences.
Accompanying Michelin and Castrogiovanni at The Regattabar is saxophonist Rick DiMuzio, bassist Bruno Raberg, drummer Tiago Michelin of “Reecontro”, cellist Naseem Alatrash, Berklee Global Jazz Institute percussionist Sergio Martinez, and the choir Sungdeep.
Nando Michelin and Sissy Castrogiovanni are thrilled to present their double album release celebration at the Regattabar on April 17 at 7:30 PM. The night promises to be full of unforgettable original music. The Regattabar functions as a full service restaurant and bar.
