Samuel Batista is an Alto Saxophone player born in Panama City, Panama and the first musician of his family. In 2009, Batista won a full scholarship through the Panama Jazz Festival to participate in the 5-week summer program at Berklee College of Music in Boston, USA. Later on, he won an admission for the Conservatory of Music of Puerto Rico and left Panama for one year. In September 2012, Batista moved to Boston, MA to study at Berklee College of Music with the prestigious Presidential Scholarship. During his time in Berklee College of Music, Batista has gained admission to the Berklee Global Jazz Institute. He is currently working as a bandleader of the ‘Third Land Quintet’, who has been together since 2015. The quintet is still in the process of recording its first EP, with sessions at SoundScape, Boston, MA. Batista's mentors include pianist Danilo Perez, saxophonist Patricia Zarate, and Panamanian pianist Walter Smith. He has also had the privilege to play and learn from musicians like John Patitucci, Joe Lovano, Ron Savage, Lincoln Goines, Paquito D’Rivera, Alain Mallet, Oscar Stagnaro, Kim Plainfield, Victor “Vitin” Paz, David Sanchez, Ron Savage, Kevin Harris, Nando Michellin, and many more....
