Founded in 1970, the Friends is a non-profit, volunteer organization that sponsors cultural events and funds resources for the library.

The Friends sponsors children’s and adult programs, including poetry and author readings, art lectures, film series, a music series and the annual Miller Historian Award ceremony that brings nationally-known speakers to Concord. Most events are free. The Friends funds many services and amenities, such as museum passes, large-print books, multimedia equipment, CD-ROMs and DVDs, books on tape, and staff development. The Friends have made special contributions to the Fowler and Main Library renovation campaigns.
