Jazz in Meanjin presents The Funkies aka the Funky Butt Club, a new band by Trevor Hart featuring the vocal stylings of Pearl Hart.

Known mostly for his work with his freeform jazz quartet during a longtime residency at Ric’s Cafe (back when the Valley was cool), Trevor now explores his own musical origins – the traditions of early jazz, rags, spirituals and blues.

The early jazz tradition has a freedom, an energy and a beauty and enduring music culture.
