The music of Tara Fuki, formed in 2000 in Brno by two violoncellists, is delicately dynamic and intensive in its expression. Based on common improvisations later carefully elaborated, enriched by reflections of different musical styles with the flavour of distant lands, it is a genuine and colourful kaleidoscope reflecting the depths of the feminine soul.
Since its creation Tara Fuki have been successful all over Europe (Czech Republic, France, Germany, Italy, Austria, Sweden, Poland, Slovakia, Russia, Ukraine, Rumania, The Netherlands, the UK, etc.) and Central America. In 2001 Tara Fuki was awarded by the Czech Academy of Music in the categories “Alternative Music – World Music” and ” Break-through of the Year” and in 2007 in the category “World Music”. Creativity, improvisation, and sophisticated composition – extending even to contemporary classical music: Vertigo is one of the most original Czech groups. Formerly known as Vertigo Quintet and with Tara Fuki’s cellist Dorota Barová as permanent member expanded to a sextet, they released their excellent third studio album Metamorphosis in 2011. It captured the band members on the never-ending quest for new creative processes and impulses and is filled with sometimes surprising, but thoroughly authentic and emotionally based original music.
Their fourth studio album, Taj, a compact and conceptual set of songs, released this spring, was performed successfully in May both at the Prague and the Brno Jazz Festivals. As usual, members of Vertigo pushed form and content of their musical expression a bit further again.
