Harmónia Jazz Workshop: Dezső Olah Quarantine Concert at Budapest Jazz Club

Pianist and composer, DEZSŐ OLÁH is a graduate of the world-famous Franz Liszt Academy of Music. The 33-year old Hungarian pianist who early in his career won the prestigious Junior Prima Award and then went on to collect several more, is an amazingly versatile musician. In his work he manages to combine the fruits of his classical training with his passion for straight-ahead jazz, his immersion in the Hungarian and Roma musical tradition and his compositional skills. His trio playing hard driving modern jazz is as successful as his crossover Trio á la Kodály or his septet featuring woodwinds. Dezső’s album, “Reflections on Béla Bartók’s Six Romanian Dances” had rave reviews in the music press. An epilogue about the beginnings: We first noticed this smiling, pleasant and extremely gifted 21-year old at the first talent-seeking contest staged by the Harmónia Jazz Workshop on 5th December 2006. He sat down at the piano and the ideas just came streaming out of him. Not all of them worked but most of them did. When he accompanied others he displayed, for his age, a surprising and admirable professional humility.
