Sergé "Jojo" Mayer's career began in the early '80s when, at 18 years old, he joined pianist Monty Alexander's band. He then continued with the jazz-rock group Screaming Headless Torsos and the fusion band Intergalactic Maiden Ballet. In the early '90s, Mayer moved from Europe to New York, where he worked as a sideman for several different artists before founding the quartet Nerve, a band where Mayer developed the idea of reverse technique, playing machine rhythms on an acoustic drum kit....

Sergé "Jojo" Mayer's career began in the early '80s when, at 18 years old, he joined pianist Monty Alexander's band. Jojo Mayer is known for blending jazz, drum’n’bass, and jungle, and electronic music has had a central influence on him in recent decades. Me/Machine represents the next chapter in this love affair between human and machine, and machine and human.

"The initial impulse for ME/MACHINE came during an experimental recording with Brian Eno, shortly before the pandemic broke out. I was struck by how generative, algorithmic technologies and artificial intelligence would influence the future of music and thinking: If I had a free year, I would dive into it."
