Karnas has worked with Poland's jazz legends as well as top-line artists of Europe’s jazz scene. In 2006 and 2007 he was awarded Grand Prix of jazz vocal competitions in Bruxelles and Crest, France. His being noticed by juries, journalists and audiences gave way to his band's touring in many corners of the world just to mention France, Germany, Norway, Ukraine, Great Britain, Romania, Moldova, Belgium, Morocco, Denmark, Hungary, Switzerland, Czech Republic, Azerbaijan, Vietnam or China including appearances at major jazz events such as London Jazz Festival. Since 2008 Karnas has been the spiritus movens of Intercultural Gathering for Creativity, Expression and Music “Voicingers” – an event contributing to both promotion of jazz singers at the very beginning of their international careers as well as music education for nonprofessionals. His debut album Karnas was released in 2011 by Hevhetia and his live performances from Budapest became successful releases on BMC Records (Audio Beads in 2012 and Vanga in 2014), making Karnas a distinctive element of the European jazz scene.
Grzegorz Karnas started his bands in 1998. His projects, trios without a harmonic instrument and quartets in different line-up configurations, are far removed from the classical paradigm. The group likes drawing on the trance-like nature of ostinatos and the abstraction of modal playing, developed on the basis of simple melodic themes. A brief, general outline of the Grzegorz Karnas Formula in concert would be, according to Karnas, “accoustic, energy-filled and groovily hipnotic music-making with a hefty dose of improvisation”.
Special guest to the trio is the young pianist from Azerbaijan, Elchin Shrinov, recognized more and more on the international jazz scene. Born 1982 in Baku to a family with folk music traditions, Elchin Shirinov is a self-taught pianist who was improving his technical skills by intensively analysing such musicians' play as Bill Evans, Herbie Hancock, Chick Corea, Brad Mehldau. In 2008 he has begun cooperation with the Jazz Center in Baku. With the Sevda Alekperzade Band he played several concerts in Germany, France and Switezerland. Elchin was also member of the Rain Sultanov Quartet appearing with them on various festival stages in Georgia, Azerbaijan and Malaysia. In 2010 he gave performance on Baku Jazz Festival with his own group, the Elchin Shirinov Trio.
