The duet is the simplest, and at the same time the most fascinating, way of making music together: it is a dialogue between two in the greatest of harmony. There are few things mightier than a melody created and sounded in a joint effort. In La Strada Invisibile (The Invisible Road), Italian jazz pianist Rita Marcotulli and accordion player Luciano Biondini set out to record the magical moments when melodies are born.
Though the two instruments can seldom be heard together, there is ultimately nothing surprising about the rapport between the two players. Both studied classical music, and both are devoted representatives of the Italian traditions. Early on in their career, they already attracted considerable international interest. Rita Marcotulli has played with such jazz legends as Chet Baker, Joe Lovano, Paul Bley, Palle Danielsson, Michel Portal, Enrico Rava and Pat Metheny, as well as popular songwriters of her country, like Pino Daniele and Gianmaria Testa. Luciano Biondini is one of the most sought-after accordion players today, with multifarious musical affiliations and experiences, playing folk, jazz and world music. Extremely intensive, highly charged with emotions and dramatic passions, his playing is nonetheless always elaborate to the utmost, as he would never for a moment give in to the temptation of superficiality....
