This past summer while traveling in Ghana, Jazz flutist Rebecca Kleinmann met Gyil (Ghanaian xylophone) player SK Kakraba at the first “Orff Afrique” workshop where she studied traditional Ghanian music with him. Impressed with SK’s virtuosic playing of the ancient instrument built from wood, gourds, and spider egg pouches, Rebecca’s adventures took her to SK’s remote hometown, Saru to experience the culture where the Gyil tradition thrives.
