  The Mike Price Jazz Orchestra was formed in Tokyo Japan in 1999 to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the birth of Duke Ellington.  The initial concert featured a rare performance of the "Such Sweet Thunder Suite, " also known as the "Shakespearian Suite. During the the following years the band featured other important Ellington/Strayhorn compositions in addition to featuring the leader’s own work.  Mike has also brought other rarely heard, extended works to the Japanese audience such as the Miles Davis/Gil Evans collaborations, “Miles Ahead” and “Porgy & Bess.”  For this first appearance in Los Angeles with many of LA’s great jazz musicians, the orchestra will perform music from the Ellington legacy, featuring the “Such Sweet Thunder Suite”  plus a selection of other pieces from other suites such as “The New Orleans Suite” and “The Far East Suite!”  This will be a musically delicious entree designed to satisfy even the most discriminating tastes of the jazz epicure! ...
