Abe Ovadia Trio at Cville Coffee

The Charlottesville Jazz Society and WTJU are pleased to welcome guitarist Abe Ovadia and his trio back to Charlottesville, performing at Cville Coffee on Saturday December 2nd at 7 pm. Abe has performed here several times over the years and is always a crowd favorite. Hailing from New York City, Abe is the recipient of the Best Guitarist of 2016 Award from Hot House Jazz Magazine. He holds a bachelor's degree from Berklee College of Music, and a master's from New York University's highly acclaimed jazz performance program.

Abe has developed a unique identity on the guitar and as a band leader, featuring an emotionally-charged energy and unconventional style. His music has gained the respect of his peers and jazz veterans alike, such as Grammy-award winning trumpeter Brian Lynch, who said, "It has been very enjoyable to perform his original music. Abe’s groups are platforms for continual music exploration, documented most recently by the 2015 release of his third album, "Am Home." Each performance includes a deep focus and intensity that is always in service of the music, and nurtures the exploratory nature of his fellow musicians. Legendary record producer Todd Barkan says "Powerfully lyrical guitarist Abe Ovadia explores the inner and outer frontiers of some the most heartfully expansive music of our age."

Ovadia’s new trio also features the powerful New York City rhythm section of bassist Michael Feinberg and drummer Dominic Palombi. Together they’ll be performing Abe’s original tunes, along with his arrangements of jazz standards, including music by Herbie Hancock and John Coltrane.
