Chris Dammann’s Restroy at The Bridge Pai

CHARLOTTESVILLE, VA—On Saturday March 5th at 8pm, bassist and composer Chris Dammann’s Restroy will celebrate the debut of its album, Saturn Return, at The Bridge PAI. As part of this double-header event, which is sponsored by The Charlottesville Jazz Society, The 3.5.7. Ensemble will also perform tracks from its 2015 release, Amongst the Smokestacks and Steeples.

As a sextet, Restroy will perform versions of the songs featured on the new album. Recorded at Chicago’s Electrical Audio and at White Star Sound in Virginia, the album is a collaborative take on pop-chamber music born from Dammann’s desire for the people who inspire him in two cities to meet. “This music is meant to be more minimal, simpler than I sometimes write,” explains Dammann. “It’s about being with friends. Daniel, Gina, and Cathy reminded me of the best parts of the Chicago music scene, so it was great to take them there to record and meet some of my favorite Chicago musicians, and then to have those musicians visit Charlottesville and record at White Star.”

For this March 5th concert at The Bridge, Restroy will consist of Chicagoans, James Davis (trumpet), Nick Anaya (sax), and Virginian’s Toby Summefield (guitar), Catherine Monnes (cello), Loren Oppenheimer (Tabla and Frame Drums) and Richmond drummer John Niekrasz.
