The Charlottesville Jazz Society And WTJU-FM Present The Michael Mcneill Trio at The Downtown Mall

On Sunday October 1st at 5:00 pm, The Charlottesville Jazz Society and WTJU are pleased to welcome The Michael McNeill Trio, which will perform a house concert on the downtown mall in Charlottesville.

Pianist and composer Michael McNeill's trio with veteran improvisers Ken Filiano (bass) and Phil Haynes (drums) has drawn praise from critics in the US and abroad, who note that the band plays music that is “brimming with intelligence and passion” (allaboutjazz.com). 2017 marks the band's 10th anniversary, and the group’s 2017/18 concerts will feature brand new music by McNeill as well as selections from their 2015 album Flight.

McNeill, based in New York state, has cultivated a personal style that sounds at home in both mainstream and avant-garde contexts, from ethereal chamber-jazz sounds post-bop energy. Bassist Ken Filiano performs throughout the world, playing and recording with leading artists in jazz, classical, and world/ethnic settings. He last played in Charlottesville with his wife, vocalist Andrea Wolper. Veteran drummer, Phil Haynes is featured on more than 50 LP and CD releases by numerous American and European record labels. His most recent cd’s include an album of duets with Dave Liebman, and a trio record with Liebman and bassist Drew Gress.

The Michael McNeill Trio performs at 5:00 pm on Sunday October 1st at a downtown Charlottesville house concert. Tickets are available in advance at McNeilltrio.eventbrite.com. General Admission is $15; $12 for paid supporters of The Charlottesville Jazz Society, and $10 for students. Any tickets remaining at the door will be $20 for all.
