Please join the CJO for a night of music featuring trombonist/trumpeter Wycliffe Gordon and tenor saxophonist Houston Person for a heartfelt tribute to jazz legend Clark Terry who passed away on February 21, 2014 at the age of 94.

Wycliffe Gordon, a Georgia native, is a trombonist/trumpeter, arranger, composer, and music educator. Gordon will be featured in excerpts from the Gil Evans version of Gershwin’s Porgy and Bess, which Clark Terry recorded with the Chicago Jazz Orchestra in 2005 to widespread critical acclaim. Please join the CJO for a night of music featuring trombonist/trumpeter Wycliffe Gordon and tenor saxophonist Houston Person for a heartfelt tribute to jazz legend Clark Terry who passed away on February 21, 2014 at the age of 94.

Wycliffe Gordon, a Georgia native, is a trombonist/trumpeter, arranger, composer, and music educator. Gordon will be featured in excerpts from the Gil Evans version of Gershwin’s Porgy and Bess, which Clark Terry recorded with the Chicago Jazz Orchestra in 2005 to widespread critical acclaim. He will also be featured on a number of charts from the Clark Terry Big Band library.

Houston Person, who hails from South Carolina, but has deep musical roots in Chicago, will join in the tribute with his soulful saxophone. Person played with such luminaries as Lena Horne, Gene Ammons, Freddy Cole, Etta Jones and Horace Silver to name a few. He is especially known for his beautiful and soulful ballad playing.

Opening the concert will be students from the Midwest Young Artists Big Band under the direction of Chris Madsen, performing from 6:45 p.m. to 7:15 p.m.
