Dear friends and family, fans and fiends —
I want you to know about a very special gig coming up soon: FRED SIMON: SONGS OF MY YOUTH, solo piano, DELUXE EDITION on Thursday, March 12 at 7:30 pm, as part of the wonderful Whiskey Lounge series within the inner sanctum of 27 LIVE in Evanston. Described as "smart music and intelligent conversation for curious people," the series, hosted by fellow musician Steve Rashid, "has the feel of an intimate house concert in a comfortable, great sounding listening room with top notch food and drink." And if for some strange reason you can't be there in person, every show is streamed live on the internet (see link below)....

Described as "smart music and intelligent conversation for curious people," the series, hosted by fellow musician Steve Rashid, "has the feel of an intimate house concert in a comfortable, great sounding listening room with top notch food and drink." And if for some strange reason you can't be there in person, every show is streamed live on the internet (see link below).
So here’s the deal: I’ve played the Whiskey Lounge series twice before with two different trios, and they were great experiences. This time, I’m going it alone. Many of you have heard me play the Songs of My Youth repertoire in various venues in which, more often than not, I have been “accompanied" by the general hubbub of a busy restaurant and bar. Hey … it is what it is, and that’s okay!
But I’ve been hankering to play these songs in a venue that "has the feel of an intimate house concert in a comfortable, great sounding listening room," and I know many of you have been hankering to hear me play these songs in a venue that "has the feel of an intimate house concert in a comfortable, great sounding listening room." I think you get the idea.
Selections from Songs of My Youth may include music by The Beatles, Joni Mitchell, James Taylor, Stevie Wonder, Carole King, Leonard Cohen, The Beatles, Neil Young, Grateful Dead, Jimmy Webb, Paul Simon, The Police, and, of course, The Beatles.
I’m considering this to be a “deluxe edition” not only because it’s a rare opportunity for listening without distraction, but also because I’ll be augmenting the program with some of my own tunes, and probably some other material that, while not adhering strictly to the Songs of My Youth repertoire, fits well within the scope of the evening. And, of course, it’s likely that I’ll be throwing in one or two colorful anecdotes of youthful follies back in the 1900s.
And as always, thanks for your past, present, and future support.
Grateful Fred
