Joanie & Sparrow were married on November 6th, 1982. They met at the old Redford's on Lincoln Avenue, both playing for a "no nukes" benefit. Sparrow was doing the sound mix and playing at the end of the night with his band. Joanie sang her set, and Sparrow asked for her phone number on the break. He was looking for a singer to work with his band… Two weeks and a rehearsal later, Joanie made her debut with the Sparrow Ensemble at the Lincoln Park Street Festival. As their friendship grew, Sparrow popped the question, and they began their life together…
