From the moment he held a double bass in his hands for the first time at age sixteen, Renaud Garcia-Fons saw possibilities to explore all the music that interested him – classical, jazz, Persian, Indian, Mediterranean and South American. Driven by new ideas and the talent to translate them into compositions, Garcia-Fons reinvented the way the bass could be played. The result is an utterly new sound – an amalgam of double bass, cello, violin, guitar, lute and more – that exceeds any conventional idea of playing the double bass.

For his tenth album on Enja Records, the DVD-CD "Solo, the Marcevol Concert," Renaud recorded two nights of solo concerts in Le prieuré de Marcevol, a 16th century priory in the Pyrenees mountains of southern France...
