His affinity for music began cultivation in high school by playing in bands and exposure to the music of Thelonious Monk, Count Basie and Joe Pass. He played in the Jazz Workshop at St. Charles high school under the direction of Jeff Childs and Jim Kull and the ECC band with directed by Mark Bettcher.\nIn '96 he relocated to Minneapolis, MN with the defunct rock act Oxpecker. After briefly forming the No Filter Quartet and touring with 12Rods he received a scholarship offer to attend Northern Illinois University as part of Fareed Haque's guitar studio.\nUpon arrival in DeKalb, Chicago became the destination with opportunities to hear the Bobby Broom Trio and Ron Perrillo quickly becoming the norm, along with the Tuesday night jam at the New Apartment Lounge hosted by Von Freeman.\nInspired, he moved to Chicago in 2000 to join other musicians and learn from the masters. He has performed at the Green Mill, the Chicago Jazz Festival, Andy's Jazz Club, Pete Miller's Steakhouse and the Jazz Showcase as a leader and a sideman for Taku Akiyama, Marco Polo, Marc Pompe, Juli Wood and the Deep Blue Organ Trio. He has performed with Jodie Christian, Von Freeman, Bobby Broom, Ron Blake, Kobie Watkins, Maurice Brown, Ron Perrillo, Eric Schneider, Pat Mallinger, Marquis Hill, Juli Wood, Dennis Carroll and Shara Maxwell.\nIn 2012 he released his debut recording "Urban Intervals." The recording features the all-star rhythm section of Bobby Broom Trio bassist Dennis Carroll, the internationally known George Fludas and Jodie Christian.\nIn 2018 Alejandro has released his second recording, his first with the group Flow.\nFlow is a guitar, piano led jazz group featuring Bill Carrothers with the all star rhythm section of Dennis Carroll and George Fludas. Celebrating their first release 'Subject to Change' with original compositions from Alejandro Urzagaste and Bill Carrothers. Flow will be performing regionally in the Midwest to support the release of "Subject to Change" starting in Minneapolis and Chicago.\nBill CarrothersBill Carrothers has been a professional pianist for 35 years. He has played many venues throughout the U.S. and Europe including the The Village Vanguard, Village Gate, Knitting Factory, Birdland, Blues Alley, New Morning (Paris), the Monterey Jazz Festival, Gilmore Keyboard Festival, the Audi Jazz Festival, the Nevers Jazz Festival, the Montreal Jazz Festival, Jazz Middelheim, AngraJazz, and the Marciac Festival in France. In October of 2000, Mr. Carrothers headlined the prestigious Rising Star Tour throughout Germany, Austria, and Switzerland. He has been a leader on twenty-six recordings, all of which have received critical acclaim. His sideman credits include some of the greatest names in jazz including Scott Colley, Buddy DeFranco, Dave Douglas, Curtis Fuller, Drew Gress, Tim Hagans, Billy Hart, Billy Higgins, Ari Hoenig, Freddie Hubbard, Dave King, Lee Konitz, James Moody, Gary Peacock, Dewey Redman, Charlie Rouse, James Spaulding, Bill Stewart, Ira Sullivan, Toots Thielemans, and Benny Wallace.\nDennis CarrollDennis Carroll started playing bass professionally at age 17 out of Poplar Grove, IL. Dennis was taught by Mike Barnett, a great bassist and great friend. He has performed with artists such as Bobby Broom, Ron Blake, Ira Sullivan, Russ Long, and regularly works and records with Bobby Broom, Pharez Whitted, Ron Perrillo, Pat Mallinger, and John Wojciechowski.\nGeorge FludasChicago drummer George Fludas was born in Chicago on October 10, 1966. SPACE has a full bar with an exciting array of cocktails and an extensive beer list. While we do not serve food in our venue, customers are welcome to bring in pizza from Union, the restaurant up front.
