NYC vocalist Marianne Solivan makes her debut here in Chicago, with bassist Marlene Rosenberg's " A Class Act " band.
Marianne is becoming one of the most buzzed about jazz singers on the New York scene. Marianne latest CD "Prisoner of Love" which was reviewed with 4 stars from Downbeat, featured Christian McBride on bass, and produced by trumpeter Jeremy Pelt. The infallible swing of Ella, the daring of Betty Carter, the matter-of factness of Carmen McCrae…They can all be found in the voice of Marianne Solivan, whom trumpeter Jeremy Pelt has called “the modern-day paradigm to which all singers should aspire.” The CD was one of my favorites of 2012.
Reginald J Thomas on piano, who is one of the most in demand pianists and educators in the country. Thomas’s soulful, hard-swinging brand of piano immediately grabs an audience and assures them that a swinging time is set to be had by all. After nearly twenty years as a professor at Southern Illinois University Edwardsville, Thomas accepted a position at Michigan State University, which began last fall.
Michael Dease on trombone, Michael has emerged as one of the premier jazz trombonists alive today. Born in the countryside of Augusta, GA in the “Deep South”, Dease played the saxophone and trumpet before choosing the trombone at age 17. In 2001, Dease moved to New York City to become part of the historic first class of jazz students at The Juilliard School, earning both Bachelors and Masters degrees. Dease quickly established a reputation as a brilliant soloist and sideman, recording 4 albums as a leader and over 100 sessions as a sideman, all before the age of 30.
Dease is a sought-after and two-times GRAMMY-award winning lead, section and bass trombonist with today’s leading jazz orchestras, including those led by Christian McBride, Roy Hargrove, Nicholas Payton, Charles Tolliver, Rufus Reid, Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra and the Dizzy Gillespie All-Star Big Band.
Marlene Rosenberg, who is leading the band, "Is One of the most original, prolific and influential jazz bassists on the scene". She has had many high points in her career from touring with Jazz legends such as Joe Henderson, Nancy Wilson, and Joe Williams. Marlene has recorded 3 CD's as a leader with such greats as Cedar Walton, Javon Jackson, and over a dozen recordings as a sideman with Ed Thigpen, Joe Henderson, Willie Pickens, and Robert Irving lll. She's on the jazz studies faculty at NIU, and Northwestern University.
Marlene is looking forward to making this performance one you will not want to miss. This will be the first in the series of creative bands put together by Marlene of international musicians for live performances. There are more coming-InWalkJazz.
