As a native resident of Brooklyn, Randy Weston’s choice of MoCADA as his hometown venue is extremely important to the community, especially its largely Diasporan population. A tribute to Randy will include, Charisa the ViolinDiva, who creates an innovative take on contemporary soul and Blitz the Ambassador, a Ghanaian born hip-hop and visual artist that rose to acclaim here in Brooklyn. Their eclectic mix will draw together various generations for one-of-a-kind performances and an evening to remember.
Local sponsors include Le Grand Dakar Restaurant and Therapy Wine Bar. Pierre Thiam, chef of Grand Dakar, grew up in Senegal’s southernmost coastal province, Casamance. With a diverse culinary background of Senegalese, French, Vietnamese, and Moroccan cuisines, he will provide his current creations for all to enjoy. Therapy Wine Bar will also provide some of their signature wines for guests to experience.
