In what's become a sort of tradition, former Clevelander and jazz guitarist Rick Stone Returns for Special One-Night Engagement at Nighttown.

Since moving to New York in 1982, Rick Stone has earned respect as a musician and educator. Rick has been called "one of the finest straight-ahead guitarists on the current NYC jazz scene" (20th Century Guitar/MWE3.com). This year Rick returns for a special one-night engagement at Nighttown on Sunday, August 18, 2013. He'll be accompanied by Ashley Summers (bass) and Ron Godale (drums). Shows start at 7:00 & 8:30pm. There is a $10 cover. Located at 12387 Cedar Rd., Cleveland Hts., Nighttown is Cleveland's premier jazz room, featuring nationally known acts weekly. Rick’s passion for jazz was sparked after hearing Sonny Stitt at Cleveland’s Smiling Dog Saloon in the 1970s. He studied classical guitar with George Bachman and music theory with Dr. Joseph Howard at Tri-C before moving on to Berklee and finally New York where he studied with Barry Harris, Jimmy Heath, Ted Dunbar, Donald Byrd and Hal Galper, earning his Masters Degree in Jazz Performance at Queens College. Rick has performed at Carnegie Hall's Weill Recital Hall, the Blue Note, the Smithsonian Institute, Kennedy Center, and other major venues. His groups have included stellar line-ups with musicians like Kenny Barron, Barry Harris, Ralph Lalama, Eric Alexander, Matt Wilson and many others. Rick teaches at Hofstra University, Brooklyn Conservatory of Music, and Jazzmobile, and has received numerous grants and awards. He performs regularly at the Garage, the Bar Next Door and other NYC clubs and in summer tours Italy as a guest artist and clinician. In 2011 the Rick Stone Trio “Fractals” made Jazzweek’s Top-100 CDs of the year.
