What is foreign? What is my own? Where do I come from and where are we going? How do we find home? These are questions that increasingly occupy us in the world and have always been reflected in art, music and literature. The jazz scene in Germany and NRW is a good example of this – it is constantly changing and building more and more bridges to other cultures.
With the new series Jazz im Brückenschlag and this special concert evening, Anette von Eichel would like to specifically seek dialog. Anette has the Irish saxophonist Matthew Halpin as a guest. Matthew now lives in Austria and has lived in the USA and Cologne for a long time. We are interested in how Matthew has found his home as a musician in Cologne and Germany – what was/is foreign? What has (become) his own? What can our shared experiences of music, literature and experiential space give rise to?...

The evening has a concert part with pieces written by Matthew and Anette and a discussion part in which Anette will interview Matthew on the subject. You, the audience, are cordially invited to actively listen and then join in the conversation!
