Johannes Mössinger recently released two completely different albums, PAINTING IN BLUE (recorded with his international quartet) and ABOUT BACH (solo piano). In the context of the quartet, his piano playing acts as a spiritual center and at the same time leaves room and freedom for the top-class ensemble, for each individual musician. As a soloist in his exploration of Bach’s music, one experiences the pianist as mature and multifaceted, an artist of profound expression.

In his newly formed trio, Mössinger now relies on the congenial collaboration with Martin Gjakonovski, one of Europe’s most distinguished jazz bassists, and ECHO Jazz Award winner Bastian Jütte on drums.
In this constellation, the full range of his piano playing comes into its own. The three musicians play like a firework display of different streams of energy, sometimes wildly eruptive, sometimes flowing polyphonically, full of complex rhythms and aggressive intervals. Echoes of Thelonious Monk, Shostakovich and Bach can be heard and are consciously developed further. Today’s jazz is enriched with its own vision.
