Julia Sanjurjo and Marina Ruiz Matta, two Argentinian artists of great range, perform original music consisting of poetry and improvisation, interspersed with elements of jazz, improvisation, the music of the European tradition and Latin American influences.
Julia Sanjurjo (Mar del Plata, Argentina) is a singer, composer and arranger. She graduated in composition from the National University and is currently a student in the Jazz Composition/Arranging Master’s program at the Cologne University of Music and Dance.
As a composer and arranger, she has worked with various ensembles such as the National Orchestra of Argentine Music, the Academic Orchestra ISA of the Teatro Colón, the Tropi Ensemble, the string ensemble SurdelSur and in residencies for the Experimental Center of the Teatro Colón.
As a singer, she has performed as a soloist in various projects and has collaborated with musicians such as Heiner Goebbels, Sebastian Gramss, Valentín Garvie, Joëlle Lèandre, Juan Pablo Navarro, Graciela Jimenez, Ernesto Jodos and many others. She recently performed at IRCAM – Centre Pompidou, where she collaborated with Agustín Issidoro and Pierre Jodlowski.
She has been a member of the National Poliphonic Choir of Argentina, the vocal ensemble Cámara XXI and the University Chamber Choir of Mar del Plata.
She was a scholarship holder of the National Fund for the Arts (2015, 2017, 2020) and the Mozarteum of Argentina (2022).
She studied jazz and improvisation with musicians from Buenos Aires and the international scene. She also attended the SIM (School for Improvisational Music) at the Brooklyn Conservatory (New York, 2019).
She has also participated in festivals such as the BA International Jazz Festival, the Contemporary Music Series of the San Martín Theater and the Cervantes National Theater, the CCM Haroldo Conti Jazz Festival and the CCK Jazz Series.
Her artistic activity unfolds in the field of contemporary music, jazz and improvised music, where she resonates with the sense of community and creation as a collective human axis.
Marina Ruiz Matta is a pianist and composer from Buenos Aires. She graduated from the Leopoldo Marechal School of Music (Argentina), where she obtained a piano diploma specializing in Argentine tango. She obtained a post-graduate diploma in Dalcroze Eurhythmics from the UNA (National University of the Arts – Argentina), a course validated by the prestigious Institut Jaques-Dalcroze in Switzerland.
She received certificates in solfege and piano improvisation from the Institute for Jack Dalcroze-Education, Bethlehem PA, USA.
Marina is a professor at the Universidad Nacional de las Artes.
She has recorded four albums of mainly her own music, mixing Latin American folklore and tango with a good dose of jazz.
