Nelson Mandela Tribute on MLK Day 2014 at Woodlands Tavern

Over 20 of Columbus’s top jazz musicians will gather to say goodbye and thank you to Nelson Mandela at Woodlands Tavern, 1200 W 3rd Ave, at 8:00 pm on MLK Day, January 20. They will perform songs from the South African and American experiences in the struggle for freedom and human dignity.

At least one song, Nkosi Sikelel’I Afrika, the South African National Anthem, will be performed by all the musicians. Other songs on the program include Hugh Masekela’s Mbombela and Bring Him Back Home, Coltrane’s Song of the Underground Railroad, the African-American National Anthem Lift Every Voice and Sing, and Sweet Honey in the Rock’s Biko....

There is no cover so all can attend. Donations will be collected for the Nelson Mandela Children’s Fund. This uplifting program is being produced by The Jazz Poetry Ensemble™ and the Kate Schulte Foundation.
