The label “a big band from a small village” seems true in every sense of the word when it comes to Fanfare Ciocarlia. Since they were founded in a Moldovian village in Romania, the 12 piece brass ensemble has grown into a global phenomenon performing all around the world. Now they embark on a big tour to celebrate their 25 year anniversary – and ALICE is happy to present a show in Valby Kulturhus!

Fanfare Ciocarlia’s unparalleled talent for alloying their Balkan brass with dashes of jazz, pop and rock, all performed with mad precision at breakneck tempos, has given them cult status and made them a permanent fixture in the music scene ranging from punk to classical. Two and a half decades, thousands of shows and 9 studio albums later, Fanfare Ciocarlia were at the pinnacle of their career when a pandemic shocked the world. And while the world seemed to be at a standstill, the band’s many fans became active and helped them to complete their long-planned 25th anniversary album with financial support and words of encouragement. Now the results can be heard: “It Wasn’t Hard To Love You” is a musical ode to Fanfare Ciocărlia’s legions of fans. It is the latest chapter in the story of a big band from a small village, a band that wants to put smiles on people’s faces, and a band that yearns for a long future of thrilling concerts extending deep into the night....

De moldaviske konger af Balkan Brass fejrer 25 års jubilæum. Det bliver et brag af en anden verden, når legenderne Fanfare Ciocarlia indtager Valby Kulturhus til koncert præsenteret af ALICE. Koncerten er en del af Vinterjazz 2022.

Egentlig kan det siges ret kort: Hvis man vil have balkan brass-musik af fineste karat, så får man det ikke meget bedre end hos Fanfare Ciocarlia. Det 12 mand høje orkester kan med rette kaldes legender – legender, der tilmed kan fejre 25 års jubilæum.

Fanfare Ciocarlia så dagens lys i en lille landsby i den rumænske del af Moldavien, men havde allerede fra starten store ambitioner om at udbrede den lokale musik til hele verden. Ja, faktisk havde en mission om at lade den dansable musik indtage Mars! Helt til Mars er de ikke nået endnu (hvem ved, måske til 50 års jubilæet?) – men det er ganske vist, at deres musik er blevet et globalt fænomen. De har medvirket til soundtracket på den seneste “Borat”-film, de har optrådt til uddelingen af Nobels Fredspris, og deres fuldfede blæser-riffs er blevet samplet flittigt af flere elektroniske kunstnere. Dertil har deres musik gjaldet ud af højttalere til snart sagt enhver balkan-fest med respekt for sig selv de sidste mange år.

Det er og bliver dog en særlig fornøjelse, når man får mulighed for at opleve bandet live. Og det bliver der mulighed for, når de som del af deres 25 års jubilæum lægger vejen forbi Danmark, hvor ALICE præsenterer dem i Valby Kulturhus. Fanfare Ciocarlia har senest udsendt albummet “It Wasn’t Hard to Love You” – en kærlighedserklæring til deres fans efter 25 år on the road. Og en smittende opvarmning til koncerten med dette fantastiske orkester, som har forfinet deres moldaviske aftapning af den fyrige big band-musik, som kendes fra forskellige egne af Balkan, og som historisk er opstået i et krydsfelt mellem tyrkisk musik, østrig-ungarsk march-musik og lokale traditioner. Det bliver en fest!
