Gabber Modus Operandi is an accidental project founded by Kasimyn and Ican Harem. Following a standout performance at CTM 2019, Bali-based duo Gabber Modus Operandi return to Europe.

After cutting their teeth at local parties and punk gigs in Denpasar, the duo banded together to experiment with and amalgamate the evil energies of gabber, driving rhythms of footwork, percussive patterns of funkot (an Indonesian dance music subgenre), and wildness of jathilan (a traditional Indonesian trance dance in which spirits possess a dancer’s body, challenging one to become more animal and more wild).

These ventures can be heard in their singular productions of what they term “200 bpm orgasm music.” Debut release Puxxximaxxx emerged via influential Indonesian imprint Yes No Wave in fall 2018.

I et konstant tempo på 200 BPM leverer Gabber Modus Operandi hidsige frontalsammenstød mellem noise, metal, happy hardcore og indonesisk gamelan. Til april spiller de deres første danske koncert på ALICE.

Gabber Modus Operandi er en DJ-performance-duo, der er vokset ud af den blomstrende rave-scene i Bali-hovedstaden Denpasar, består af Kasimyn og Ican Harem. DJ Kasimyn, der har spillet til utallige punkkoncerter i byen og som især har gjort sig bemærket ved at skrue alle sine selections op til langt over 180 BPM. Performancekunstner og vokalist Harem, der har baggrund inden for Indonesiens performance- og eksperimentalscene og som ellers har slået sine folder i black metal karaoke boybandet Cangkang Serigala.

Bandnavnet Gabber Modus Operandi er en hyldest til både den tidlige techno-genre gabber og Chicago footwork-pioneren DJ Rashad. Duoen betegner ganske rammende deres egen musik som “200 BPM orgasm music”, der som et splintret spejl reflekterer musikkens brudstykker af bl.a. Chicago footwork, grindcore, noise og metal, men også indonesisk gamelan og den traditionelle trancemusik jathilan, der oprindeligt er knyttet til historier om kropslig besættelse af onde ånder. Gabber Modus Operandi bakkes op af et sarkastisk digitalt virvar af Youtube-klip, der skifter i samme ADHD-agtige frekvens som de hektiske tracks.

Gabber Modus Operandi har udgivet to albums på det hypede kinesiske label SVBKVLT og vender endelig tilbage til Europa til foråret efter deres opsigtsvækkende koncert på Berghain under CTM Festival i 2019.
