Jacob Fischer 50th Anniversary: Remembering Svend at Jazzhus Montmartre

We are hosting four special nights where we celebrate the 50th birthday of the great Danish guitarist Jacob Fischer. For this edition Jacob Fisher will pay tribute to the late violinist, Svend Asmussen. The violin has had a substantial role in Jacob Fischer’s life as a musician playing with artists such as Finn Ziegler and Kristian Jørgensen. A turning point in Jacob’s career was when he met the legendary violinist Svend Asmussen who passed away earlier this year, whom he played with from 1992 until their last recording in Florida in 2010. The meeting with Svend gave Jacob a direct link to jazz history and the musicians that Svend has played with such as Django Reinhard and Fats Waller. Joining him on the violin this time around is Bjarke Falgren, who has known Svend personally and inherited a large amount of Sven’s music notes. Svend Asmussen has called Bjarke Falgren nothing less than the “hardest swinging jazz-fiddler I’ve heard since “Stuff” Smith”. Accompanying Jacob and Bjarke on stage will be the talented young bass player, Matthias Petri, who recently returned back home to Denmark after having studied for a couple of years in New York at Manhattan School of Music. I anledningen af Jacob Fischers 50 års fødselsdag fejrer vi det med fire forskellige koncerter i huset. Denne aften kan man opleve en hyldestkoncert til Svend Asmussen. Violinen har fyldt godt i Jacob Fischers musikerliv. Han har spillet med Finn Ziegler, Kristian Jørgensen og et vendepunkt i karrieren blev mødet med legenden Svend Asmussen, som han spillede med fra 1992 indtil deres sidste indspilning i Florida i 2010. Mødet med Svend gav et direkte link til jazzhistorien og de musikere Svend har spillet med som Django Reinhardt og Fats Waller. Violinisten Bjarke Falgren har kendt Svend personligt og har bl.a. arvet en stor stak af mesterens noder, og Svend har kaldt ham intet mindre end den "hardest swinging jazz-fiddler I've heard since “Stuff” Smith". Unge Matthias Petri er netop vendt hjem fra et par år i jazzens hovedstad New York, hvor han har studeret på Manhattan School of Music og suget jazzen til sig af byens pulserende musikmiljø. Der er lagt op til en smuk hyldest til mesteren, med swingende udgaver af de kendte melodier og mere personlige bud på, hvad Svends musik har betydet for dem, der spiller.
