About the album:

After a successful career in New York performing with luminaries such as Lester Young, Charlie Parker, Dinah Washington and John Coltrane, the great American pianist Kenny Drew (1928 –1993) moved to Paris in 1961 and then relocated permanently to Copenhagen in 1964 where he met the Danish bass genius, Niels-Henning Ørsted Pedersen (1946-2005). The two became close friends and musical associates for the rest of their lives. Aside from originals compositions and jazz standards, their “Duo” album also contains innovative and pioneering work in the form of jazz adaptations of traditional Danish folk songs. The album was recorded on April 2nd, 1973 by the Danish jazz record label and it remains one of the most popular and enduring albums of both artists’ careers. The tracks “I Skovens Dybe Stille Ro” (“In The Deep Tranquility In The Woods”) and “Det Var En Lørdag Aften” (“It Was A Saturday Night”) were cross over hits in Denmark and contributed significantly in bringing jazz into the mainstream. Oscar Peterson later fell in love with the first of these songs and played it on his concerts worldwide for the last many years of his life....
