A foundry, a factory. Industrial plants, focussed on processing their products in alembics with next to no margins for error. Always keeping one goal in sight: all components resemble each other down to their molecular level and are being led to a single purposed after being sold.
Not so with JUST ANOTHER FOUNDRY!
The goal of the Cologne-based trio differs greatly from that of the common foundry. It is about diversity, aesthetics and their own roots. In their time of playing, the group grew into a unit. At all times their compositions mirror the authentic sound of JAF
Instead of forcing every workpiece into a cast and thereby burdening them with tight restrictions, they choose the freedom of interaction, microtonal structures and playful grooves. A basic consideration for melody leads their way, even though they donât stop at rustic sounds and tunes.
Despite their relatively short career, the three could already call the attention of the german jazz scene.
They won the Young German Jazz Award in October 2015, played at WDR Campusjazz and came in second at the Young Jazz Award Munich.

Jonas Engel, born 1990, did his first steps with the saxophone in the local music orchestra. Here he made his first experiences with Jazz and won band and solo prices at the Youth Jazz Awards. With the age of 16 he began playing in the Youth Jazz
Orchestra Hesse. After playing in the musics corps of the german army he began studying Jazz saxophone with Roger Hanschel, Claudius Valk, Frank Gratkowski and Hubert Nuss at the Cologne University of Music. From then on he became part of the local and german jazz scene, both as a musician and a composer in many different bands as front- and sideman. Since 2014 Jonas Engel is part of the National Youth Jazz Orchestra (Bujazzo), having had the chance to tour through many countries of Europe, South America, the Near East, China and South-East Asia.
Florian Herzog (*1989) first studied Double Bass with Philippe Aerts at Maastricht Conservatory and later at Cologne University for Music with Dietmar Fuhr and Dieter Manderscheid. There heâs an active member of the local jazz scene and worked with
national and international names like Jonas Burgwinkel, Michael Moore, Sebastian Gramss, Christina Fuchs, Rob Bruynen, Sabine KĂŒhlich u.A. His involvement in several projects brought him to venues in Netherlands, Belgium, France and Italy where he played on festivals like "Moers Festivalâ, âJazz Maastrichtâ,
âBrussels Jazz Marathonâ or âUmbria Jazz Festivalâ
2013 he received a scholarship of the âYehudi Menuhin foundationâ and 2014 he won the jazz award for composition with his band âTurnâ at the âJazz Awards Biberachâ.
Anthony Greminger, born 1994 in Offenburg, started very early. Through his father he got to know the genres of jazz and fusion and discovered a great fondness for what is still obvious in his playing today. Very early, he played at competitions ("Heavytones Kids"), drum clinics in the USA (with Dave Weckl, Peter Erskine, Horacio Hernandez) and participated in workshops, such as a 2008 partaking in the "European Jazz Master Class" under the direction of Peter Herbolzheimer. After finishing school, he started studying at the Cologne University of Music with Prof. Jonas Burgwinkel. He worked and recorded with many bands - ranging from pop, over jazz to big band (among others "Otto Normal" (Sony Music Entertainment), "4mament" (Unit Records), "LJJB

Joel Illerhag is the most vigorous Bazantar-player of his generation. He has assembled a choir with seven strong female voices that sing songs that are influenced by folk, jazz and contemporary music genres. Their music is a search for an emotional and spiritual depth in the sound, exploring new paths of playing together.
As a musician it is important for Joel to serve the music and focus on what the music need from him, rather than the opposite. What does the music need from him? If there is no answer â then he may be silent.
And what is the Bazantar? It is a new futuristic instrument built by Joel himself in 2015. It contains 26 resonate strings that make the instrument sounds like an orchestra. This concert is going to be something special.
