Jakob Bro says: "I have known Palle since I was a child. I played the trumpet myself and listened to him a lot. Our paths have often crossed. We played two concerts at the Copenhagen Jazz Festival back in 2014, which really opened my eyes to the potential of this constellation. The album was released on ECM Records in 2018 to great critical acclaim, not least in Politiken, where music editor Thomas Michelsen gave six out of six hearts under the headline: "His album is like falling leaves and slow steps. It is simply pure beauty.”



Over the past few years, Jakob Bro and Palle Mikkelborg have repeatedly revisited the lyrical moods and compositions from "Returnings" with the Denmark’s percussion queen Marilyn Mazur, world-renowned for her collaboration with Miles Davis, Wayne Shorter and Jan Garbarek.

“Der er luft i musikken, stor frihed og et fælles ønske om at skabe noget, der ikke nødvendigvis kan forklares, men mærkes”. Sådan beskriver guitaristen Jakob Bro sit samarbejde med to af dansk musiks helt store profiler – Marilyn Mazur og Palle Mikkelborg.

Jakob Bro fortæller: “Jeg har kendt Palle, siden jeg var barn. Jeg spillede selv trompet og lyttede meget til ham. Vores veje har ofte krydset hinanden. Vi spillede to koncerter på Copenhagen Jazz Festival tilbage i 2014, der virkelig fik mine øjne op for potentialet i den her konstellation. For et par år siden talte vi om at samarbejde om musik for kor, men vi besluttede os for at koncentrere os om improviseret musik. Gradvist fødtes idéerne til albummet “Returnings””

Albummet udkom på ECM Records i 2018 til store anmelderroser, ikke mindst i Politiken, hvor musikredaktør Thomas Michelsen gav seks ud af seks hjerter under overskriften: “Hans album er som faldende blade og langsomme skridt. Det er simpelthen ren skønhed.”

I løbet af de seneste år har Jakob Bro og Palle Mikkelborg af flere omgange genbesøgt de lyriske stemninger og kompositioner fra “Returnings” med den ukronede percussion-dronning Marilyn Mazur, der blev verdenskendt for sit samarbejde med Miles Davis, Wayne Shorter og Jan Garbarek, og som drivkraft i front for egne nyskabende bandprojekter med førende nordiske musikere.
