Georgie Fame began his musical career as a singer/pianist with Rory and the Blackjacks in the 1960s. An audition for impresario Larry Parnes resulted in a job as a backing pianist for the Parnes “stable” of singers, and by the age of 16 Georgie had toured Britain extensively, playing alongside Marty Wilde, Billy Fury, Eddie Cochran, Gene Vincent, Tony Sheridan, Freddie Canon, Jerry Keller, Dickie Pride, Joe Brown and many more.
During this time, Billy Fury selected four musicians, including Fame, for his personal backing group and the “Blue Flames” were born. A three-year residency as the house band at the Flamingo Club in London’s Soho district cemented the band’s reputation as “the epitome of cool”, and in 1963 their first album, Rhythm and Blues at the Flamingo, was recorded live at the club. A string of hit records in the following years included the No. 1 best sellers, Yeh Yeh (the first recording that knocked The Beatles off the number one spot in the charts), Getaway and 1967’s The Ballad of Bonnie and Clyde.
Throughout his 40-year career, Georgie Fame has recorded over 20 albums and 14 hit singles. He is equally at home in the company of jazz groups and big bands, orchestras, rock groups and his own band, The Blue Flames. As a sideman, he has recorded with many artists, including Gene Vincent, Prince Buster, Muddy Waters, Eric Clapton, Joan Armatrading, Andy Fairweather-Low, Bill Wyman and Van Morrison. Ever on the road, Georgie Fame continues to perform his unique blend of jazz/rhythm and blues for live audiences at clubs and music festivals throughout Europe.
Hugh Buckley is a Dublin born and based, self-taught guitarist, composer, arranger, educator and author. He has performed throughout Europe, the U.S., Argentina and China, working as a sideman and also leading his own groups as well as performing with a wide array of internationally acclaimed artists. Besides featuring on many recordings as a sideman, Hugh has released three CDs as leader, "Yes Indeed" (1998) w/ James Williams, Peter Washington, Darren Beckett, "Spirit Level" (2001) (both recorded in New York) and "Sketches of Now" (2008). His latest release “The Day of the Duo” (2014) is with renowned Scottish guitarist Nigel Clark. Hugh was producer, arranger and guitarist on the 2008 platinum selling CD release by the legendary folk artist Ronnie Drew, “The Last Session - A Fond Farewell”.
UK-born pianist Phil Ware made the transition from blues to jazz in his early twenties. Teaching himself the style through trial and error, he was twice a finalist in the Young Jazz Musician of the Year by the time he was 25. After moving to Ireland, he rapidly established himself as a major player on the scene, where his hard-swinging, bop-tinged style made him much in demand from Irish and international musicians. His career has taken him throughout Europe and as far afield as America, Asia and the Middle East, and his long-standing trio with bassist Dave Redmond and drummer Kevin Brady has twice represented Ireland at the prestigious Eurojazz Festival in Mexico City.
Kevin Brady has many years of experience playing with some of the World’s leading exponents of jazz & improvised music. He has performed and recorded with Internationally renowned musicians such as: Larry Coryell (guitar) Seamus Blake (Sax) Norma Winstone (Vocals) Ronnie Cuber (Saxophone) Guy Barker (Trumpet} Bobby Watson (Sax.) Giovanni Mirabassi (Piano) Peter Bernstein (Guitar) Ian Shaw (Vocals). He has also supported and performed on double-bill concerts with acts such as; Kurt Elling, Herbie Hancock’s Headhunters, Andrew Hill, Swedish piano trio EST & Soul legend Gil-Scott Heron.
Dave Redmond is one of the most in demand Bassists in Ireland, having performed with visiting artists such as Bob Dorough, Keith Copeland, Dave Leibman, Jason Rigby, Bobby Wellins, Guy Barker, Ian Shaw, Jacqui Dankworth, Scott Hamilton, and Jim Mullen. He has performed at numerous festivals and clubs throughout the World such as Ronnie Scotts and Pizza Express (London).
Initiated by Music Network, and developed in partnership with Triskel Christchurch and supported by Cork City Council, Phil Ware’s residency includes a 5-date concert programme with Irish and international musicians of renown, as well as a series of outreach initiatives and musician mentorships involving a selected group of students from CIT Cork School of Music and tutors from Music Generation Cork City.
