Marcin Wasilewski, Slawomir Kurkiewicz, and Michal Miskiewicz are undoubtedly one of the most exciting jazz piano trio in Europe, if not the world. Independently, the trio goes as far back as 1990, when Wasilewski and Kurkiewicz, two fifteen-year-old music school students, got together to play jazz. A year later they became a trio, and Miskiewicz took his place as drummer in 1993. The ensemble has not changed ever since. At first they performed as the Simple Acoustic Trio, had five local label releases, and won a number of national music awards.

Their first album for a reputed international label ECM, plainly entitled Trio, was released in 2004. It won a German Record Critics prize and received attention from US critics. This is what Don Heckman wrote for Los Angeles Times: "Their years together have resulted in an ensemble with an utterly symbiotic creative flow". The second ECM album January was released in New York in 2007 and was produced by Manfred Eicher. This is when they changed name to the Marcin Wasilewski Trio. It has continued to be a collective of equals, but its members have come to accept the convention that piano trios are traditionally identified by their pianists. In addition, Marcin is the most prolific composer of the threesome. Their third, 2010 ECM release was named Faithful, after a 1966 composition by Ornet Colemana. Critics have declared it the trio's most versatile studio project ever.
