JOATA returns home with a full band to perform his new album Que Paso. The record marks a sharper and more direct turn, and this show is about presenting it as it was meant to be heard live, loud, and unfiltered. The night is stacked with special guests including a solo set from Making Movies offering a stripped down glimpse into their dynamic sound, plus KOBI bringing their sharp and heartfelt take on indie rock.JOATA is a Los Angeles based Puerto Rican rock project led by José Oyola, known for raw intensity, direct songwriting, and bilingual lyrics addressing themes of love, displacement, identity, and diaspora. Drawing from rock, hip hop, and Caribbean rhythm, the music emphasizes tension and physical energy.Enrique Chi is the leader of the Latin Grammy–nominated band Making Movies, crafting psychedelic rock ’n’ roll rooted in the rich rhythmic traditions of Panamá. Rolling Stone describes the band as “an eclectic blend of rumbero percussion, delicate organs, and grungy fuzz rock.” Chi's performances always feature the mejorana, a rare Panamanian folkloric instrument made by only five remaining luthiers worldwide, both preserving its cultural lineage and ushering it into new sonic territory.NPR calls Making Movies “perhaps one of the most unique groups around today—sensual, smoky, and seductive.” Chi’s career includes collaborations with legendary artists such as Rubén Blades, performances at major international festivals, and tours with notable acts including Los Lobos, Ozomatli, Hurray for the Riff Raff, and Maldita Vecindad. Beyond the stage, Chi is the founder of Celebrate AMERI’KANA, a festival in Kansas City that broadens the definition of what it means to make “American” music. There is no clear date for when the indie-rock trio KOBI came together as a group, simply because they were formed from the ashes of a comical number of failed and discarded projects.Combining the simple joy of their high school pop-punk garage bands with the more introspective sounds of their inebriated college jam groups, the band has a sound that is both nostalgic and held together by the life experiences of being in their 30’s.This NY-based trio, forced into hibernation in March of 2020, has emerged from their slumber with their second EP release, “Whose Boy is This?” as they look to take their collection of garage rock meets indie-emo tunes to the masses. Kobi is a boy, KOBI is a band, KOBI is not a boy band.$21 Advance General Admission, $26 Day of General Admission (+ online ticketing fees)Park City Music Hall has a full bar and kitchen available on-site serving craft cocktails, delicious bites and more!
