Matt studied jazz guitar with Dale for eleven years, before moving to NYC in 2012 and returning to Denver in 2015. He cites Dale as one of his major influences in his life and career. Bruning is planning to play a few tunes during this concert, which will be showcasing some of Dale’s original compositions as well as selected standards interpreted by the band. During his tenure in the United States Navy from 1953-57, he was a guitarist and arranger, and when called upon, he also played piano, bass, vibes, and percussion. He studied music and guitar with world renowned educator Dennis Sandole. In 1961, Bruning became the leader of the house band for The Del Shields Show, a television variety program that originated from Philadelphia on WRCV, an NBC affiliate. In 1964, he and his family moved to Denver. His prowess as a performer is equaled by his talent in composing, arranging and teaching. During his 45 plus years of private teaching, he has expressed the joy of jazz to more than 1000 students, many of whom went on to become professional musicians. Among those include Bill Frisell, Mark Patterson, Bob Gillis, Tim O'Brien, Pat Donohue, and Mark Simon. Dale has been featured in such prestigious magazines as 20th Century and released multiple albums and performed on stage with greats such as Jim Hall, Red Norvo, Dizzy Gillespie, Specs Wright, Marian McPartland, Erroll Garner, and Chet Baker. Along with his business partner, Jude Hibler, Dale developed the timeless music series, where he performs deep dives into the music of great jazz composers. He has toured nationally and internationally and performed with notables such as Colorado Symphony Orchestra, Ron Miles, Cuong Vu, and Billy Tolles. Fuller holds a Masters in Jazz Performance from CU Boulder, and is a former long-time student of celebrated veteran jazz guitarist/educator Dale Bruning. Matt lived in New York City and worked as a busy freelancing guitarist and teacher from 2012-2015. Matt currently has two record releases as a leader featuring his original compositions (City Life, and Waiting for Violet) and has appeared on dozens of other artist’s records. As an educator Matt has been a part of programs teaching at CU Boulder, UNC Greeley, Denver Metro State University, and Rocky Ridge Music Academy. Matt currently teaches Jazz and Guitar at Denver School of the Arts and runs his own private teaching studio in Lafayette.
