During the mid 2000s Vernec recorded several albums as Blue44 – a compose–in-the-moment project, where band members would compose and play with no pre-planned roadmap. Emphasis was on the groove. So It Goes and The Vault were released in 2004 and were recorded live in nightclubs in San Diego.
