Colorado-born multi-instrumentalist and producer Sonya Walker places jazz piano at the center of her musical solar system, but she is otherwise known as a trumpet player, singer, guitarist, and bassist.Sonya began studying classical piano when she was 5, and picked up her great uncle's cornet three years later. Since then she's shared the stage with jazz legends like Randy Brecker, Roy Hargrove, Greg Gisbert, and Art Lande, toured, and currently holds a residency at Denver’s iconic Dazzle jazz club. Her recorded and live work as a sideman spans numerous genres, from modern jazz and funk to avant-garde, EDM and Americana.Her work can be heard live regularly around Denver with neo-soul band Tansy Wine, video game cover band Nostal-Jazz, fusion group The Cat’s Glasses, Jeremy Mohney's trad swing orchestra, Hugh Ragin's Messenger's of Peace, Electric Giz, and with folk singer John Shepherd. She has also founded a few projects of her own; her compositions and work as a leader can be heard in her electronica duo PROTOTYPE, her project Mirror Phases, her jazz quintet, trio, and solo performances, and her songwriting performances on piano, guitar, and vocals.
