FOAM – The new album by Mathias Ruppnig
Release date: December 12, 2025 | NoWaste Records – Vinyl, CD & Streaming
Following his highly acclaimed releases square and The Spinning, Ruppnig presents his third studio album, FOAM – a personal, musically complex work that combines familiar companions and new impulses.
For this album, Ruppnig brought some of his most influential musical partners on board: Kurt Rosenwinkel (guitar, USA), one of the most influential jazz guitarists of our time, is a long-time companion and shapes the sound of FOAM with his characteristic musical language. Joint projects such as Berlin People (Tobias Meinhart) and the Kurt Rosenwinkel Trio mark a deep musical connection. Tony Tixier (piano, synth, France), with whom Ruppnig previously played in the band Scopes (with Ben van Gelder, among others), brings depth, movement, and modern timbres to the mix. Musina Ebobissé (tenor saxophone, France), once a bandmate in singer Ganna Gryniva’s formation, and Joandèr Cruz (alto saxophone & flute, Brazil), who joined the recording directly and immediately impressed both musically and personally, provide expressive playing with melodic freedom. Lorenz Heigenhuber (double bass, Germany), whom Ruppnig met after moving to Leipzig, completes the ensemble as a close musical confidant.
Guest contributions come from Australian singer Matilda Abraham (vocals on Ivy) and Roland Hanslmeier (Austria, percussion on Jimbo).
The result: an album that combines sonic warmth, rhythmic sophistication, and emotional depth—audibly personal in every note.
