Of the best-known composers of the Great American Song Book (Berlin, Kern, Gershwin, Porter, Rodgers, Arlen), the one who brought the most personal jazz experience to his work was Harold Arlen. Early on, he was a professional jazz pianist and went on to write songs such as "Stormy Weather" for Harlem's Cotton Club revues. Of course, the man who would later compose "Over the Rainbow" wasn't limited to the jazz world, and in the end belongs to all America and the whole world. Don’t miss our great set-menu, casual pre-performance dinners for $19.75 ($14.75, kids 9 and younger) in The Shedd’s Great Hall 1 1/2 hours before most evening performances at The Shedd (usually 6 pm). Prepared by The Shedd's resident chef, Shelby Hoopes-Tice, each meal includes entrée (vegetarian option), salad, side dish, dessert, coffee and tea.
