The May Day concert will feature music primarily from the films Hatari! (1962) and The Pink Panther (1963). The fresh orchestrations for Turku Jazz Orchestra and Turku Philharmonic Orchestra are the work of conductor Ville Vannemaa. Vannemaa also serves as the artistic director of Turku Jazz Orchestra and has been selected as the Artist of the Year at the Turku Jazz Festival 2024.
The length of the concert is about 70 minutes, no intermission.

Turun filharmonisen orkesterin ja Turku Jazz Orchestran yhteinen vappukonsertti tarjoilee kuulijoilleen herkullisimmat palat säveltäjämestari Henry Mancinin valtavasta tuotantokakusta. Mancinin syntymän 100-vuotisjuhlan kunniaksi tunnetuimmat, nautittavimmat sekä koskettavimmat melodiat kuullaan uusina mehevinä versioina kaupungin loistavan big bandin ja sinfoniaorkesterin tulkitsemina.
Henry Mancinia (1924–1994) pidetään yhtenä elokuvahistorian tärkeimmistä säveltäjistä. Hänen palkintokaappiaan koristivat mm. neljä Oscar-palkintoa, Golden Globe -palkinto sekä kaksikymmentä Grammya. Mancinin elokuvamusiikille leimallista ovat vahvat melodiat, kaikkien tuntemat “korvamadot”, kuten Pink Panther ja Baby Elephant Walk, ajaton tunnelma sekä mielikuvituksellinen eri instrumenttien käyttö orkestraatioissa. Mancini oli lisäksi uraauurtava säveltäjä yhdistellessään ensimmäisten joukossa jazzin vaikutteita klassiseen myöhäisromanttiseen orkesterimusiikkiin.
Vappukonsertissa kuullaan musiikkia pääasiassa elokuvista Hatari! (1962) ja Vaaleanpunainen pantteri (1963). Kappaleiden tuoreet orkestraatiot Turku Jazz Orchestralle ja Turun filharmoniselle orkesterille ovat kapellimestari Ville Vannemaan käsialaa. Vannemaa toimii myös Turku Jazz Orchestran taiteellisena johtajana, ja hänet on valittu Turku Jazz Festivalin vuoden artistiksi 2024.
