Legendary pianist Seppo Kantonen returns to trio format with his new jazz trio together with Markku Ounaskari (drums) and Antti Lötjönen (bass). The new band has started rehearsing new material in 2023 and will tour Finland extensively in January-February 2024.
"The ensemble began rehearsals for my new compositions at the beginning of 2023. The band's expressive language is somewhat free but rooted in composition. In my opinion, I've only recently found a blend I find pleasing between consonance and dissonance. The mood of my pieces is supported by Markku Ounaskari's beautiful drum sound and Antti Lötjönen's rhythmically strong bass playing, both of whom are also sensitive and quick to react to new situations. Seppo Kantonen trio merkitsee legendaariselle pianisti Seppo Kantoselle paluuta perinteisen piano-basso-rummut-trion pariin. Vuonna 2023 perustettu yhtye basisti Antti Lötjösen ja rumpali Markku Ounaskarin kanssa kiertää laajasti Suomessa tammi-helmikuussa 2024.
"Kokoonpano aloitti uuden sävellysmateriaalini harjoitukset vuoden 2023 alussa. Bändin ilmaisullinen kieli on vapaahko mutta sävellettyyn pohjautuva. Omasta mielestäni olen vasta viime aikoina löytänyt mieleiseni sekoituksen konsonansseista ja dissonansseista. Kappaleitteni tunnelmaa tukevat Markku Ounaskarin kaunis rumpusoundi ja Antti Lötjösen rytmisesti vahva basismi molempien ollessa myös herkkiä ja nopeita reagoimaan uusiin tilanteisiin. Kaiken kaikkiaan trion pyrkimys selkeään ilmaisuun on mielestäni parhaiten kuvaava luonnehdinta."
