The North East Florida Jazz Association (NEFJA) is proud to present Doug and Jean Carn in concert at the Museum of Arts & Sciences auditorium in Daytona Beach on Sunday, January 23 at 2:30 p.m. as part of NEFJA’s 2011 concert series. This will be the first time the legendary jazz musicians are performing together in Florida in more than 30 years.

In the early 70’s, jazz keyboardist and composer Doug Carn and his then-wife vocalist Jean Carn were the star performers on the Black Jazz record label. They were best known for their chart topping albums Infant Eyes, Revelation and Spirit of the New Land that are still consider cult classics. These and other Black Jazz albums were re-released in 2004 but the Carns split up professionally and personally in the mid 70’s and pursued separate careers.

Their music has stood the test of time. At the request of their fans—and their children—the Carns agreed to perform together in a reunion concert in Atlanta last September. The response was overwhelming and in December, the Carns revived their timeless hits again, this time in New York to equally enthusiastic audiences. The January 23 concert will be their first Florida reunion concert.

“We’re proud to present this concert,” said NEFJA president Muriel McCoy. “Doug is our vice President and has played an important role in helping NEFJA bring world class jazz to local audiences. To give our members, guests and other Central Florida jazz lovers an opportunity to see him perform the music that made him and Jean famous will be a treat. This is a special moment in jazz history.”

Performing with the Carns at the Florida Reunion concert will be Al Waters on saxophone, Lawrence Buckner on bass, and John Lumpkin on drums.

The concert will begin at 2:30 p.m. and the public is invited. Ticket prices are $25 for NEFJA members, $30 for non-members and $15 for students. The Museum of Arts and Sciences is located at 352 South Nova Road, Daytona Beach. NEFJA is a non-profit organization dedicated to the perpetuation, performance, preservation, and promotion of jazz. In addition to bringing nationally and internationally known jazz performers to the local area, the group awards scholarships to talented young students enrolled in a Jazz studies program at a Florida college or university.
