Dee Dee Bridgewater:Dee Dee Bridgewater:Dee Dee Bridgewater's story is full of projects, encounters and awards. And much more, for Dee Dee is also a committed artist, as in her role as Goodwill Ambassador for Food and Agriculture at the UN.Her history with Marseille Jazz des Cinq Continent is first and foremost a history of jazz, which is inseparable when it comes to stage encounters that have delighted audiences at every appearance by the jazz diva. This year, she returns to Marseilles with We Exist!, a tribute to women and activism, with emblematic songs that bear witness to her struggles. On the program: Mississippi Goddam, composed and performed by Nina Simone, or Trying Times, a song written by Donny Hathaway and Leroy Hutson and performed by the late Roberta Flack, who passed away on February 24, 2025. The Danger Zone, composed by Percy Mayfield and performed by Ray Charles in 1961, which he cleverly “slipped” onto the B-side of his hit single, Hit the road Jack. It was Ray's manifesto to denounce American society's “slow-wittedness” towards the American civil rights movement! Erik Truffaz:For several decades now, Erik Truffaz has been inviting us into a world of curious jazz, churning out a string of compositions, each as sublime as the next. Our “Godfather of Jazz” returns to Marseille Jazz des Cinq Continents with a plunge into his film soundtracks. His first session in 2023 featured two albums, Rollin' and Clap! on Blue Note. And on the black screen of his sleepless nights, we'll be treated to the dreamy credits of Nino Rota, Michel Magne, John Barry, Ennio Morricone, Philippe Sarde and more. On July 12, the Théâtre Silvain will be swinging to the sounds of Truffaz's soundtracks, inviting us into the heart of mythical musical and cinematographic scenes: Philippe Sarde's music in Les choses de la vie and the musical duet between Romy Schneider and Michel Piccoli, the improbable meeting between Jean Gabin and Serge Gainsbourg for Requiem pour un con and the chases of Lord Brett Sinclair and Daniel Wilde to the sound of John Barry's Persuaders Theme in Amicalement Vôtre! And as usual with Erik Truffaz, it won't be a question of covers stricto-sensu, but rather a plunge into his Cinéma Paradiso. And for the occasion, he's called on his best ever film crew, including his long-time cinematographer, Marcello Giuliani, and his horde of genius machinists, Raphaël Chassin, Alexis Anérilles and David Koch!...
